描述

Description
BMP-4 is a member of the Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMPs) family, which is important for the development of bone and cartilage. BMPs belong to the TGF-β superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. BMP proteins are synthesized as large precursor molecules that are cleaved by proteolytic enzymes. The active form of BMPs can consist of a dimer of two identical proteins or a heterodimer of two related bone morphogenetic proteins. BMPs signal through type I and type II receptor tyrosine kinases and signal through SMAD proteins.
BMP-4 has an important role in postnatal tooth cytodifferentiation. Overexpression BMP-4 has been associated with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP).
